Sept. 24th: “Pilgrim Pipeline Dangers and You” in Hanover, NJ

The Coalition Against the Pilgrim Pipeline presents a briefing on the newly proposed oil pipeline project by  Matt Smith, Regional Organizer with Food and Water Watch. The Pilgrim Pipeline proposal would install two pipelines carrying oil from upstate NY to the Bayway area in NJ. One pipeline will carry crude oil down to NJ and one will carry refined products back to upstate NY. The pipeline route is expected to follow along Rt 287 in Passaic and Morris counties.

Oil in the pipeline will come from the North Dakotan Bakken shale which is extracted through fracking. In February the Wall Street Journal compared oil from 86 locations around the world and found Bakken crude oil to be the most explosive. Bringing this fuel into our state endangers our families, property, and environment.

Matt will discuss the dangers of having the pipeline go through populated areas with the risk of oil spills and water pollution. 40 organizations have banded together to stop the pipeline.

The meeting is:

7:00 – 8:30 pm
